Creature From The Black Lagoon Drawing
Have you ever seen the Creature from the Black Lagoon?
It's a pretty neat character – one of course that originates from the 1954 movie, by the same name.
As the story goes, deep in the Amazon jungle…
Geologists discover fossils that they think — are evidence of a missing link, one that bridges the gap between sea animals and land animals.
And sure enough – they were right.
The fish-like, reptile-like, humanlike monster…
Emerges!
…
Here, let's draw a unique – cartoonified version of it…
How to Draw the Creature from the Black Lagoon'
OK – let's begin.
And please keep in mind… this is just *a take* on the character itself.
I love to have fun, imagining and creating variations of popular characters. And here, that's exactly what we're aiming for — a likeness, but by no means, something exact.
Here's the framework…
OK, on to the head to start – begin by sketching in its fish-like lips – something similar to this…
Next up – going for a cuter, cartoony sort of look – draw in some teeth if you like, and then add some big round eyes, like so…
You can see already – it's all about "the likeness" to the original character.
And honestly, going about it like this – making it into something much less frightening – something more fun and playful…
Works out great.
Do the same! Get creative and try new ideas – as you progress…
The grey lines of course – are those of which you've already drawn, in the last step.
Continue on now, bringing forth the large crocodile-like underbelly, that runs down the chest of the Creature from the Black Lagoon…
And keep right on going…
See how sketching in the underbelly first – makes drawing the other parts of our character, all the more easy.
Fill in the outer lines, which completes its mid-section, and begin to draw the arms and hand, similar to how I've done it below…
Really taking shape now – it's no doubt, an interesting take on The Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Arms complete, move on down to its legs…
Almost done now.
Similar to how you've drawn in the central part of the body, as well as the upper legs – complete the lower part of its legs, and bring out a toe on each foot, while you're at it.
Like this…
Fun stuff!
Below you can see – I've kicked things up a notch, with minor details — just a few simple circles and lines, giving off the a unique skin look, as well as webbing between its fingers – and in this example…
Even between its arms and body.
Very cool!
Here's The Creature from the Black Lagoon – black lines only…
And then of course – the color really brings it out.
Here's the finished version…
Well there you have it – yet another creative, cartoon drawing lesson complete.
You know, there are a TON of different ways you could have approached this character. Take a look at some images of the original movie version, to see what I mean.
The main thing – is you incorporate *key features* – to make your drawing look similar to the original.
Then of course, branch off – and have some fun. Anything that incorporates parts from fish, reptiles, and people – fins, scales, claws, tail, etc. – will work!
Hope you enjoyed this.
See you again soon – for another! 🙂
